John Evans, the former president and general director of the Oregon Bach Festival, apparently died on Sunday, March 20, of a sudden heart attack at the age of 62.
Norman Lebrecht’s classical music blog Slipped Disc is reporting today that Evans’ family announced the death on his Facebook page. When I checked the page this morning, though, it had no mention of Evans’ death, though I may not have access to his postings since we’re not Facebook friends.
Update: Lebrecht sent me this announcement from the family:
Dear Facebook family. It is with heavy heart that I have inform you that John passed away suddenly of a heart attack last Sunday 20th March. He will be sorely missed by everyone who loved him, especially his siblings; Ann, Sue and Christopher Dee.
Evans headed OBF from 2007 until late 2014, when he suddenly and quietly resigned his job as general director to return to his home in the United Kingdom. He spent his last months at OBF preparing a report about the future of the festival.
